Nana Kwame Mensah Bonsu Warns Of Action If Attacks Continue
The Ahene Nanahene of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Nana Kwame Mensah Bonsu, has urged the Presidency to intervene in the growing tensions between Asanteman and Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II. He made the appeal in an interview on Adum TV on August 24, 2025.
Addressing Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, he called on President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to advise the Dormaahene to desist from what he described as persistent attacks on the Asantehene and Asanteman. He warned that if Dormaahene continued his remarks without caution, Asanteman would be forced to “advise ourselves.”

Nana Kwame Mensah Bonsu stressed that peace between the two traditional authorities could only be restored if Dormaahene personally apologised to the Asantehene and sought his blessings. He also urged government leaders to ensure that such remarks do not recur.
His comments follow Dormaahene’s recent public questioning of the authenticity of the Golden Stool, the sacred symbol of Ashanti unity and authority, known as Sika Dwa Kofi. Dormaahene claimed the stool looked “welded” when recently displayed, casting doubt on the historical account that it descended from the skies through the powers of Okomfo Anokye.
While Dormaahene has long criticised what he considers distorted historical narratives, traditional accounts affirm that the Golden Stool descended in a cloud of white dust, landing on the lap of the first Asante King, Osei Tutu, by the command of Okomfo Anokye. The exchange has deepened tensions between the Ashanti and Dormaa traditional leadership.
