Otumfuo Land Donation for New Law Campus
On July 28, 2025, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II donated 1.12 acres of land in Adum, Kumasi, behind the ministries area, to the Ghana School of Law for a new campus, expanding professional legal education beyond its sole permanent campus in Makola, Accra. The donation, formalized at a ceremony, aims to enhance access to legal training.
The initiative, first proposed in 2003, builds on a 2010 satellite campus at KNUST, facilitated by the Asantehene. The new Adum campus will include lecture halls, a moot court, hostel accommodation, a clinic, banking facilities, law firms, and legal regalia shops, reducing the need for KNUST LLB graduates to relocate to Accra.
Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie hailed the donation as a step toward practical legal training near courts, symbolizing Ghana’s commitment to a justice system rooted in integrity. He urged stakeholders, including legal and academic communities, to support the project’s completion, expected to ease pressure on Accra’s facilities.
Nana Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, Director of the Ghana School of Law, noted that the campus marks the 15th anniversary of the KNUST satellite campus, addressing logistical challenges for Ashanti Region students. The facility will support over 2,000 annual law students, aligning with Ghana’s decentralization goals.
The Paramount Chief of Sampa, Nana Samgba Gyafla II, speaking for the Asantehene, emphasized the region’s dedication to legal education. The project, backed by the Ministry of Education, is set to begin construction in 2026, promising a transformative impact on Ghana’s legal training landscape.
