32-year-old victim fatally stabbed by friend during dispute in Atuntuma.

In the Ashanti Region, a 32-year-old man lost his life after being stabbed by a friend during a dispute over a woolen carpet used for mining. The incident occurred in Atuntuma, specifically in the Nyinahin area, leading to the victim, Kwaku Poku, bleeding profusely and subsequently succumbing to his injuries.

The suspect, identified as Okyere Darko, allegedly stabbed Poku on the neck with a pair of scissors around 10:40 am on January 5, 2024. Following the attack, Poku was rushed to the Manso-Abore Hospital in an attempt to save his life. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical facility.

According to reports, the dispute between Poku and Darko arose over the possession of a woolen carpet utilized for mining activities. The police received a distress call from Hon. Agyenim Boateng, the Assembly member-elect for Achiase-Atuntuma Electoral Area, reporting the incident.

The police document confirmed the incident, stating that Okyere Darko, the suspect, has gone into hiding following the fatal stabbing. Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect, and a search party, including volunteers from Atuntuma and neighboring areas, has been dispatched to locate him. The police are also working on obtaining photographs of the suspect for publication and retrieving the weapon used in the crime.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Nyinahin Community Mortuary for autopsy as investigations into the incident continue. The tragic case highlights the deadly consequences that disputes can escalate to and the need for peaceful resolution mechanisms in communities.
