Youth Employment Agency Leader Challenges Zoomlion Contract
Acting CEO of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has firmly declared his intent not to renew the current contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited. His decision hinges on the condition that sanitation workers’ wages, presently at GH¢250, remain unchanged.
In a passionate Facebook post on Friday, 25 April, Basintale condemned the existing terms, describing them as exploitative and unjust to the youth of Ghana. His comments come amid increasing public scrutiny, spearheaded by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, who has consistently campaigned against the contract, citing worker mistreatment and contractual breaches.

Basintale echoed these concerns, labelling the agreement a “rip-off” of impoverished Ghanaians and asserting it cannot persist under the current regime. He expressed a personal commitment to integrity and improving youth opportunities, promising on his honour not to renew the contract in its current form, which he deemed “evil” under the previous government.
Highlighting his commitment to fair treatment, Basintale shared his personal stake, emphasising that he would not accept a GH¢250 salary for his family members. Inviting public engagement, he announced a live Facebook session at 8 pm to discuss the contract’s future and gather collective insights on this pressing issue.
