Youth Accuse President Mahama of Failing to Deliver Peace Promise
At least 83 people have been killed in violence linked to the Bawku conflict since its resurgence in October 2024, according to a Citinewsroom report.
The latest attack occurred on April 9, 2025, when gunmen stormed the palace of sub-chief Naba Atamburi in Poayamire, killing one person and injuring two others. One victim later died en route to Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
The Kusasi youth have expressed outrage at President John Mahama, accusing him of abandoning his campaign promise to resolve the conflict. They claim 18 deaths have occurred since Mahama took office three months ago. “We voted massively for NDC believing you’d bring peace, but the killings continue,” the youth stated at a press briefing.
With investigations ongoing and no official statement from security forces, tensions remain high in the region. Frustrated youth have threatened electoral boycott in future polls over “broken political promises.”
