Bawku Residents Warned Against Possession of Weapons as Curfew Renewed
The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, has reiterated a strict ban on weapons possession in Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas, warning that anyone found with arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons will be arrested and prosecuted.
The warning follows the renewal of the curfew hours in Bawku from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, effective Monday, March 3, 2025.
“There is a total ban on all persons in the aforementioned communities and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapon. Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” the Minister emphasized in a statement.
Government Urges Peaceful Resolution
The government has urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and youth in the area to exercise restraint and use non-violent means to resolve ongoing disputes.
Recently, Minister of Defence Dr. Edward Omane Boamah met with Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak, Majority Leader and MP for Bawku Central Mahama Ayariga, and senior security officials to review the security situation in Bawku.
Following the meeting, Dr. Boamah reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to resolving the conflict through traditional means.
“We must restore peace and stability to Bawku and other communities, and I am determined to support that cause,” he stated.
The government has assured residents that it remains committed to implementing a comprehensive roadmap for peace, and security forces will enforce the curfew and weapons ban strictly to maintain order in the area.
