Islamic prayers at the Sunyani Central Mosque were abruptly interrupted last Friday when a swarm of bees invaded the place of worship, causing chaos and panic among congregants. Hundreds of worshippers fled the mosque around 1:20 p.m., covering their faces to escape the bee attack, which targeted the aged and women, in particular.

The swift intervention of the Bono Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Ghana Ambulance Service helped contain the situation. The GNFS rescued some of the worshippers, but the bees also stung fire personnel and nearby shop owners.

ADO1 Kwame Adomako Antwi, the Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA). He noted that they initially received a call about a fire at the mosque, but upon arrival, they discovered it was a bee invasion. The affected victims, including fire personnel, have since received medical treatment.

Muslims in the Sunyani Zongo area expressed their shock and surprise, noting that it was the first time such an incident had occurred at the mosque. Shopkeepers and traders in the vicinity were also affected as the bees spread beyond the mosque.
