The Black Star Experience Marks A New Era for Tourism
The Black Star Experience, Ghana’s flagship initiative for boosting tourism, culture, and creative arts, is set to launch on Thursday, May 1, 2025. This groundbreaking event will take place at the iconic Freedom and Justice Monument located at Black Star Square in Accra.
Rex Owusu Marfo, the Coordinator of the Black Star Experience, announced the upcoming launch on Facebook on April 30, 2025. This initiative, featured in the 2024 manifesto of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), aims to deliver unique cultural, historical, and creative arts encounters. It will be a collaborative effort with the private sector, diplomatic missions, and governmental departments.
In his State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, President Mahama highlighted the significance of the Black Star Experience. He described it as a strategic plan to position Ghana as Africa’s gateway for the global diaspora, fostering deeper connections and enhancing the country’s international profile.
As part of the initiative, activities like concert party competitions, film events, and street carnivals are set to create a distinctive Ghanaian tourism brand. The President also introduced the Pan African Month, featuring a range of events like fashion festivals, food fairs, theatrical performances, and domestic tourism excursions. This initiative promises to rejuvenate Ghana’s cultural landscape, making it an essential destination for tourists worldwide.
