Blakk Rasta Calls for Total Ban on Betting in Ghana

Renowned media personality and musician, Blakk Rasta, has called for a complete ban on betting in Ghana, arguing that it has become more addictive than hard drugs and is destroying the youth.

Speaking on his Urban Blend show on 3FM, Blakk Rasta expressed outrage over the rapid growth of sports betting, describing it as a “cancer” that the government has legalized.

“Betting is very, very contagious. It hooks you even more than crack and cocaine! Yet we have decided to legalize it in this country,” he lamented.

Citing research, he claimed that 42% of Ghanaians are engaged in sports betting, a figure he compared to voter turnout and tax compliance.

“How many Ghanaians vote? How many pay their taxes? But they will wake up and throw their hard-earned money into betting!” he exclaimed.

Blakk Rasta also criticized the Gaming Commission’s decision to shut down betting centers near schools and churches, dismissing it as ineffective since betting can take place anywhere.

“You say you will shut down betting centers near churches and schools. What sense does that make? Betting can take place even in our bedrooms! The best way to fight this cancer is to ban betting entirely,” he declared.

He further argued that Ghana’s dependence on gambling is a sign of societal decline, stressing that progress cannot be achieved through chance.

“A country that throws everything to chance, instead of using scientific methods, has no future! We cannot develop if we keep betting our lives away,” he concluded.
