Ghanaian musician and media personality Blakk Rasta, born Ahmed Abubakar, is in the running for the Best Reggae Album category at the 2024 Grammy Awards. His album Salaga Soljah is the only African reggae album among 75 submissions being considered during the first-round voting stage of the prestigious awards.

Blakk Rasta faces stiff competition from international reggae giants, including Vybz Kartel, The Wailers, UB40, and Spice. The Best Reggae Album category honors excellence in reggae music, covering genres like roots reggae, dancehall, and ska. Albums must contain over 75% reggae music to qualify, with artists, producers, and engineers eligible if they contribute more than 50% of the project’s playing time.

Salaga Soljah, which features 20 tracks performed in English, French, and local Ghanaian dialects, includes collaborations with artists like Anthony B, Tiken Jah Fakoly, and King Ayisoba. Blakk Rasta encouraged his fans to rally behind his quest for the Grammy on his radio show, Urban Blend on 3FM. He hopes that Academy members recognize the quality and authenticity of the album.
