Ghanaian musician Camidoh has issued a public apology following backlash over his controversial comments on smoking during an interview with Roselyn Felli on Prime Morning. The singer had attempted to downplay the dangers of smoking by drawing a comparison to the smoke produced while cooking kenkey, a popular Ghanaian dish. His comments sparked widespread criticism, prompting Camidoh to retract his statement.

In the interview, Camidoh argued that the harmful effects of smoking are subjective, suggesting that what is harmful to one person may not be for another. He further questioned the common perception of smoking as inherently bad, using the analogy of kenkey preparation to make his point. However, his remarks were met with strong disapproval from the public and health professionals alike.

Recognizing the error in his analogy, Camidoh took to social media to apologize, describing his previous comments as “poor” and “dumb.” He expressed genuine regret for making light of a serious health issue and acknowledged the potential harm his words could have caused. Camidoh’s apology emphasized his commitment to learning from the incident and being more mindful of the impact of his words in the future.

I don’t know why public figures are often backlashed when they make comments on some personal choices on sensitive topic, I guess when you become a ‘celebrity’ you are not for yourself anymore.
