Casford Alumni Global has announced plans to construct a multi-purpose sports court for Casely Hayford Hall as part of efforts to improve sports infrastructure on campus to meet international standards.
The project, which is versatile courts for basketball, badminton, and volleyball, is part of a broader strategy to position the University as a leading sports hub in Ghana, attract international teams for training camps, and promote sports tourism across the country.
The President of the Casford Alumni Global, Colonel Z.B.V. Akatey, made the announcement when he led his executives to pay a courtesy call to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto.
According to him, the executives were there to get the approval of the management of the university to kick-start the project as soon as possible.
He said the facility forms part of the group’s plans to provide platforms for the youth to discover and develop their talents.
He added that the Alumni Association would foot the bill.
Col. Akatey noted that Casford Hall was not noted for vandalism and hooliganism and urged the new crop of residents not to bring the name of the Hall into disrepute.
For his part, Prof. Aheto expressed joy for the yet-to-be constructed facility, taking into account the platform the project would bring to students on campus to exhibit their talents and make them better individuals in their communities and country.
He said the facility would be worthy of emulation to other Alumni of residence halls.
Prof. Aheto assured them that he would forward the land request to the Development Committee as a matter of urgency to discuss the matter and enable management to give the green light for the commencement of the project.
The meeting was attended by the Registrar, Mr Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, who urged the alumni to instill in the students discipline to forestall disturbance on campus.
