On May 9, 2025 the Premier Millennium Economic, Business, and Social Impact Summit (MEBSIS) brought together stakeholders to discuss the theme “Sustainable Development Goals: A Vibrant Economy as a Catalyst for Transformation” during the 25th Anniversary edition of the Millennium Excellence Awards at the Mangyia Palace in Kumasi.

Mr. Charles Antwi-Boahen, CEO of KAB-FAM Ghana Ltd, delivered a thought-provoking address, highlighting the significance of a vibrant economy in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

With just five years left to achieve the SDGs, Ghana has made limited progress, and it’s time for radical steps to be taken. Antwi-Boahen emphasized that a vibrant economy is not just about high GDP but also encompasses inclusivity, resilience, and sustainability. He noted that economic growth, when harnessed effectively, becomes a powerful catalyst for social transformation.

The CEO stressed the importance of addressing key macroeconomic variables such as exchange rate, interest rate, inflation, taxation, and unemployment rate. He commended the current Governor of the Bank of Ghana and the Minister of Finance for their remarkable management of the exchange rate in recent weeks.

Antwi-Boahen also highlighted the need for inclusivity, innovation, and public-private partnerships in achieving sustainable development. He suggested that the state should cut out wasteful expenditures and invest in private businesses with potential for robust scalability, tackling unemployment and driving economic growth.

The role of technology and innovation was also emphasized, with Antwi-Boahen noting the transformative impact of mobile technology in improving access to financial services, healthcare, and education. He praised the government’s One Million Coders Programme, which could create thousands of tech businesses and millions of tech jobs.

Mr. Antwi-Boahen called for collective action and collaboration to achieve the SDGs. He emphasized that a vibrant economy, driven by inclusivity, innovation, and sustainability, is the catalyst for profound transformation. Ghana stands at the threshold of a new era, poised to lead by example and inspire other nations to join the transformative journey.
