Speaking at the launch of the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Ghana Highway Authority, she said that the Ghana Highway Authority contributes hugely to Ghana’s economic development sector and the nation’s road infrastructure development.
The launch event, held at the Movenpick Hotel on July 8, 2024, was themed “Development and Maintenance of Quality Highways: Retrospect and Prosperity”, and was graced by the Chief of Staff, the Minister of Roads and Highways, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Chief Executive of Ghana Highway Authority, heads of agencies, and other distinguished guests.
Speaking at the launch, Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare commended the Ghana Highway Authority for its remarkable achievements over the past five decades in transforming the nation’s road network, connecting communities, facilitating trade, and promoting national unity. She highlighted the Authority’s determination, innovation, and commitment to the nation’s development, despite the challenges faced in its early years.
She cited notable accomplishments of the GHA, including the Accra-Tema Motorway, the George Walker Bush Highway, the Damanko-Gushegu section of the Eastern Corridor, Achimota-Ofankor Road, Tetteh Quarshie-Peduase-Mamfe Road, Ejisu-Kumasi Road, and several bridges and interchanges that span the nation.
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye, acknowledged that for five decades, the Ghana Highway Authority has been at the forefront of the nation’s road infrastructure development, connecting communities, promoting economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for millions of Ghanaians.
