The cholera outbreak in the Kasoa area has reached 56 confirmed cases, with 46 patients currently hospitalized and receiving treatment. The death toll remains at five, while cases among main Kasoa residents stand at 15, with additional cases emerging from neighboring districts, including Gomoa East and Ga South.
Ghana Health Service (GHS) Director-General Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye, following a stakeholders meeting in Kasoa on Monday, shared that a strategic response plan is in place to ensure effective treatment and curb further spread, especially within healthcare facilities. Additionally, he reported improvements in the Ada area, where the outbreak was first detected.
Dr. Aboagye advised all regional health departments to heighten preventative measures. He emphasized the importance of hygiene, urging communities to adopt COVID-like sanitation practices. “Keeping our surroundings clean, regularly washing hands, and ensuring access to clean water in schools, workplaces, and marketplaces are critical steps. A sanitary environment is essential to prevent the disease from spreading,” he stated.
Authorities continue to encourage residents to observe high levels of hygiene as health teams work to contain the outbreak.
