‘Help A Christmas Child’ initiative reaches Tokpo in Greater Accra Region.
This year, Citi TV and Citi FM extended their annual ‘Help A Christmas Child‘ initiative to Tokpo in the Shai Osudoku district of the Greater Accra Region. The effort aimed to bring joy to children in the community who were displaced due to the Akosombo Dam spillage, providing them with smiles, goodies, and sumptuous meals.
The ‘Help A Christmas Child’ initiative, organized on Boxing Day through the Citi Foundation, is a yearly event where the staff and management of Citi FM/Citi TV spend the day with less privileged individuals, spreading cheer and offering support. The initiative took on added significance this year as it reached children affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage, which displaced over 30,000 residents along the Volta Lake and its estuaries.
Following the spillage in September 2023, Citi FM/Citi TV, with the support of their audience and corporate Ghana, provided relief items to the affected residents. The initiative contributes to efforts aimed at addressing the impact of the displacement, with various resettlement centers currently under construction in severely affected communities, including Tokpo. The Christmas celebration in Tokpo reflects a commitment to bringing comfort and joy to those affected by challenging circumstances during the festive season.
