Comedian Faces Charges After Alleged Car Accident Involving Pedestrians.
Popular comedian and actor Benson Nana Yaw Oduro, widely known as Funny Face, has been granted bail by the District Court in Kasoa Akweley. The bail amount has been set at GH₵120,000, with the additional requirement of providing two sureties, as per the decision made by presiding judge Annie Adobor.
Funny Face is currently facing charges related to careless and inconsiderate driving, along with two counts of negligently causing harm. However, he has not yet entered a plea as investigations into the case are still ongoing. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 10.
The comedian’s legal journey began on March 26 when he first appeared in court and was subsequently remanded for two weeks. He was granted bail on Tuesday, April 9.
The incident leading to Funny Face’s arrest occurred on the evening of Sunday, March 24, when he was allegedly involved in an accident at Kakraba in Kasoa, where four people were reportedly hit by his car. Among the victims were a 50-year-old woman and two children, all of whom sustained various injuries.
During the court proceedings, the Prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thomas Sarfo, highlighted that the case is still under investigation. None of the victims were present in court due to their hospitalization, with some receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and a hospital in Kasoa.
ASP Sarfo detailed the incident, stating that Funny Face, driving a Hyundai Atos Private car, collided with pedestrian Theresah Quaicoe and her two children while traveling from Kasoa towards Nyanyano. The accident also involved a motorbike ridden by Sam Francis Kwesi Bible and a pillion rider, Nicholas Ashong.
Following the collision, the injured victims were taken to various hospitals for treatment. Theresah Quaicoe and Elizabeth Turkson were referred to Korle-Bu Hospital, while Nicholas Ashong was taken to the Kasoa Community clinic, citing bed shortages at Ridge Hospital.
As the legal proceedings continue, the case has garnered significant attention, highlighting the importance of road safety and responsible driving practices.
