Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, Executive Director of Ghana’s Creative Arts Agency and daughter of the President, announced the launch of the “creative art card.” This card is designed to simplify the visa application process for Ghanaian artists, making it easier for them to perform internationally. The initiative, reported by Asaase Radio, aims to address the lengthy and uncertain visa process that artists often face.
The creative art card will serve as a form of professional identification, helping foreign embassies and consulates verify the legitimacy of the artists’ travel purposes. Gyankroma stressed the importance of this initiative in enabling artists to focus on their craft and career growth.
During a stakeholder engagement with music industry leaders, Gyankroma highlighted the need for Ghana to develop a distinct musical identity that resonates globally. She acknowledged Ghana’s historical contribution to Highlife music but noted the current lack of a specific, globally appealing music genre.
This initiative aligns with her vision of elevating Ghana’s music and culture on the global stage. The Creative Arts Agency aims to break down barriers, allowing Ghanaian artists to share their talents worldwide. The recent PlayGhana project also supports this vision by promoting local music on radio stations.
