The seizure occurred on November 4, 2024, following a thorough investigation by the GRA’s Intelligence and Preventive Units. Brigadier General Zibrim Ayorrogo, Commissioner of Customs, confirmed the development, stating, “Arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing to unravel the full details of the shipment and its intended recipients.”

The weapons were hidden inside suitcases, raising concerns about the potential threat posed by such illegal imports. Brig Gen Ayorrogo emphasized that importing ammunition without the required license is a criminal act, adding that offenders will face the full extent of the law.

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has seized a 40-foot container at Tema Port containing concealed weapons, including 53 pistols, 74 magazines, and 65 live rounds of ammunition. The container, numbered MEDU4496951, was shipped from the United States and falsely declared as containing vehicles and personal effects.

The agent and consignees associated with the shipment have been arrested and granted bail as investigations continue. Meanwhile, the Customs Division has assured the public of its commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s borders and preventing the illegal importation of arms and contraband.

This interception underscores the GRA’s vigilance in maintaining national security and upholding the rule of law.
