Nearly Fell Victim to the Scam.
The award scheme, known as the Global Blueprint Excellence Award, was the idea of one Kwame Owusu Fordjour, popularly known as Dr. UN, which eventually turned out to be a scam. Speaking on his latest episode of his show, “Uncut with D-Black,” the ‘Enjoyment Minister’ revealed that he received an email which looked very professional inviting him to the awards night and announcing him as a ‘winner.’ He continued that believing the invitation and considering the prestige with which the United Nations comes with, he nearly went along with his mum to the awards night. He said the only thing which prevented that was because he received only seven invitations while he had eight people on his crew.
“Everybody here would have fallen for it. All you got was a solid invitation and they would come and drop the card for your office, you would not see that man [Dr. UN]. So, you will see the crest, the company name, you will see the United Nation. Do you know the funniest thing? I almost went to that event with my mother because of the United Nation and the achievement but I did not go with my mum because I had seven invitations and my crew was eight people so the driver had to stay in the car and the seven of us went,” D-Black recounted on his show.
The CEO of Black Avenue noted that upon reaching the event grounds, colleague rapper Sarkodie had already arrived with his security detail and management eagerly prepared for the fake awards ceremony. D-Black said as soon as Dr. UN begun giving his speech, he suspected the fake award scheme and wanted to leave with his crew. But he said he was immediately called to come up for his fake award which he was excited about. According to him, he was convinced about the ingenuity of the award scheme when he met some chiefs and Daughters of Glorious Jesus seated at the event.
“When I got there Sarkodie had come with security, management and in suit. When the guy [Dr.UN] started talking he was making grammatical errors. He said he went to Harvard but every sentence he says, he will make grammatical errors. I was told the Guest of Honour was Information Minister and President Akufo-Addo and I was very good friends with the personal photographer for President Akufo-Addo but he never told me about that event. I did not see the Information Minister but I saw some chiefs and Daughters of Glorious Jesus so I was convinced because they are very respectable people. When he started talking, I wanted to leave with my crew. Suddenly, Sarkodie was awarded and was asked to stay and help with the presentation of the awards. I was just about to leave the event grounds when I was called for my award and went for the award and took nice pictures.
D-Black believes the crew which worked with Dr. UN to organise the awards were all “fooled” just as he was. “The guy is a full-blown scammer,” D-Black stated. Aside from D.Black, the other artiste that fell for the scam was Sarkodie. Even the then Vice Chancellor of Ghana’s premier university, the University of Ghana, was a victim of arguably Ghana’s biggest fake award scheme.
