Kumasi Police Nab Suspects in Gold Scam Killing
Police in Kumasi arrested two suspects, Mubarak Mohammed, 38, and Prophetess Elizabeth Darkwah, 48, on June 24, 2025, for the murder of Eric Obeng Darko, former headmaster of Dampong Senior High School. The arrests, announced by the Ashanti Regional Police on June 25, followed a probe into a deadly gold scam.
The headmaster was lured to a meeting in Asante Akyem South on June 22, 2025, under the pretense of a gold deal. He was attacked and killed, with police suspecting the motive was tied to fraud. The suspects, nabbed after a tip-off, are in custody and assisting with the investigation to uncover the full plot.
Darko’s body was found in a bush near the meeting spot, showing signs of violence. The police recovered items linked to the crime, including a phone used to contact the victim. The case has shocked the community, as Darko was known for his dedication to education.
The suspects face murder charges and are due in court soon. Authorities are searching for others who may be involved in the scam, which targeted wealthy individuals. The police urged the public to report suspicious deals to prevent similar crimes in the future.
This case highlights the dangers of illegal gold scams in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, a hub for gold mining. As the investigation continues, the community mourns Darko’s loss, hoping for justice and stronger measures to stop such frauds.
