‘Nana Amakye’ Remanded as Prosecution Builds Case
Daniel Koranteng, also known as Nana Amakye, has denied allegations linking him to the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale in 2019. The 35-year-old businessman has been remanded in custody by the Madina District Court after being provisionally charged with murder. Prosecutors claim call records place Koranteng near Suale’s residence at the time of the murder.
The prosecution alleges that Suale identified Koranteng as the individual who supplied photographs later aired on Net2 TV, where Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong called for retribution against the journalist. Koranteng, however, admitted knowing Suale and visiting Agyapong but denied selling any photographs.
Investigators revealed that Koranteng fled to the United Kingdom in 2019 after declining multiple police invitations. He returned to Ghana and was arrested in Amasaman on March 15, 2025, following intelligence reports. The court has scheduled committal proceedings for April 1, 2025, as investigations continue.
Koranteng’s lawyer, Kofi Essel Hackman, has criticized the murder charge as baseless and politically motivated. Hackman described the prosecution’s case as a “shambolic” compilation of hearsay and vowed to challenge the allegations in court.
The case remains under investigation, with authorities expected to present further evidence. This high-profile trial has reignited discussions about justice and accountability in Ghana’s legal system.
