Trump Renames Wildlife Refuge in Jocelyn’s Honor

In US, Democrats in a Fox News Digital focus group remained largely unimpressed by President Donald Trump’s tribute to Jocelyn Nungaray during his address to a joint session of Congress, while Republicans and independents reacted positively to the gesture.

Trump Renames Wildlife Refuge in Jocelyn’s Honor

During his speech, Trump announced that a wildlife sanctuary across Galveston Bay from Houston, where Nungaray lived, would be renamed in her memory.

“One thing I have learned about Jocelyn is that she loved animals so much. She loved nature,” Trump stated. “Across Galveston Bay, from where Jocelyn lived in Houston, you will find a magnificent National Wildlife Refuge, a pristine, peaceful, 34,000-acre sanctuary for all of God’s creatures.”

He then displayed an executive order officially renaming the refuge, addressing Jocelyn’s mother, Alexis, who was present in the audience.

“Alexis, moments ago, I formally renamed that refuge in loving memory of your beautiful daughter, Jocelyn,” he declared.

Partisan Divide in Reactions

A Fox News Digital focus group, conducted by maslansky + partners, tracked real-time reactions to Trump’s speech using approval dials.

  • Republicans and independents showed strong approval for the move, with Republicans registering the highest levels of support.
  • Democrats, however, remained largely unmoved, with their support staying flat throughout the tribute.

Trump Takes Tough Stance on Illegal Immigration

Trump used the moment to highlight his administration’s immigration policies and call attention to crimes committed by Venezuelan gang members who crossed the border illegally.

He specifically referenced Tren de Aragua, a violent Venezuelan street gang, whose members were charged with Jocelyn’s murder and the killing of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley.

“All three savages charged with Jocelyn and Laken’s murders were members of the Venezuelan prison gang—the toughest gang, they say, in the world—known as Tren de Aragua,” Trump stated.

Tren de Aragua Officially Labeled a Terrorist Organization

Trump also announced that he had designated Tren de Aragua, along with MS-13 and major Mexican drug cartels, as foreign terrorist organizations.

“They are now officially in the same category as ISIS, and that’s not good for them,” he said. “Countless thousands of these terrorists were welcomed into the U.S. by the Biden administration. But now, every last one will be rounded up and forcibly removed from our country. Or, if they’re too dangerous, put in jail, standing trial in this country, because we don’t want them to come back—ever.”
