Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail for the third time by a New York judge, citing witness tampering concerns ahead of his racketeering and sex trafficking trial set for May 2025.
Mr. Combs, who faces charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution, has pleaded not guilty. However, US District Judge Arun Subramanian ruled against his release, citing “clear and convincing evidence” that no bail conditions would ensure public safety.
Prosecutors alleged that while detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, Mr. Combs used prison communications to influence witnesses and orchestrate public support. They claimed he directed family members to post social media content aimed at swaying potential jurors and even attempted to contact witnesses through intermediaries.
Despite offering a $50 million bail package that included house arrest and strict visitor restrictions, the court upheld its decision to keep Mr. Combs in custody. Defence lawyers argued that detention limits his ability to prepare for trial, but the judge remained unconvinced, citing ongoing concerns about misconduct.
Mr. Combs also faces over two dozen civil lawsuits alleging coercion, abuse, and assault, some involving underage individuals. Prosecutors hinted at the possibility of additional charges as investigations continue, while legal representatives for his accusers expressed hope for further accountability.
As Mr. Combs maintains his innocence, both his criminal trial and the civil suits are set to bring intense scrutiny in the months ahead.
