Speaking at a cybersecurity awareness symposium organized by Accra Technical University (ATU), Dr. Antwi-Boasiako pointed out that the advancement of the cyber space exposes individuals and organizations to greater risks. The symposium was part of ATU’s activities to mark this year’s cybersecurity awareness month campaign.
Dr. Antwi-Boasiako highlighted that the weakest link in cybersecurity is often individuals’ ability to protect their private information. He advised organizations, especially educational institutions, to take adequate steps to protect sensitive information, including examination results, financial payments, and student data. In addition to investing in technology, he emphasized the importance of building the capacity of individuals to manage cybersecurity systems.
Professor Amavi Acakpovi, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, stressed the heightened need for cybersecurity in the digital age, especially with the increased use of the internet for various activities. He emphasized that cybersecurity is essential for protecting sensitive information, critical infrastructure, and the future of the country’s digital society.
The university has invested in innovative technology and established state-of-the-art cybersecurity programs to strengthen its defenses. Professor Acakpovi emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue, knowledge dissemination, and the exploration of emerging trends to address cybersecurity challenges.
