Repeat Offender Sentenced for Stealing GH¢50,000 Ram

The Accra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah, has sentenced Cephas Okine, popularly known as “Shatta”, to four years in prison for stealing a ram valued at GH¢50,000.

Okine, a 32-year-old driver’s mate, pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing and was convicted on his own plea. The case was prosecuted by Inspector Sheila Tetteh.

The court revealed that Okine had previously been bonded by a Teshie court for two years in November 2024 for a similar offence. His latest crime breached this bond, resulting in his current prison sentence.

On February 16, 2025, between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., Okine unlawfully entered the Teshie-Nungua Estate compound of Richard Thompson, an IT engineer, who had purchased the ram for an upcoming programme. Okine attempted to steal the ram but was caught by residents who noticed the act.

A search conducted on him revealed a pair of scissors, suspected to have been used during the theft. He was subsequently handed over to the police, where he confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Following his confession, Okine was charged and sentenced. His four-year jail term serves as a deterrent to others who may engage in similar criminal activities.
