Narcotic Dealer Has Accused A Police Office of Demanding GH¢4,000 Bribe in Drug Case
Emmanuel Kofi Asare, a 27-year-old trader, has levelled serious accusations against a Crime Officer at the La Police Station, claiming the officer demanded a GH¢4,000 bribe to settle his legal troubles outside of court. Asare, charged with the unlawful possession of narcotic plants, brought these allegations to light during a court appearance on April 15, 2025.
According to reports from GHOne TV, Asare addressed the trial judge, Mrs Susanna Edufful, stating that the bribe demand was made during his arrest at La Wireless on March 24, 2025. Asare’s inability to pay the amount led to his prosecution, while his friend, who allegedly paid the bribe, was released.
The accusation has prompted the court to summon the Crime Officer for questioning regarding the claims. In the meantime, Asare, who maintains his innocence, has been granted bail amounting to GH¢50,000, backed by sureties with equivalent documentation.
The unfolding case, which has stirred public interest and raised questions about police integrity and corruption, has been adjourned to May 7, 2025, for further deliberation. Asare’s allegations, if proven true, could have significant implications for the operations of the La Police Station and the broader police force.
