The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a tragic car accident that occurred on Saturday, October 12, 2024, on Dzanie Ashie Street in East Legon, Accra. The accident claimed the lives of two young girls, aged 11 and 12, following a high-speed collision between a Jaguar and an Acura. Both vehicles burst into flames upon impact, leaving the girls trapped in the burning Acura.

According to police reports, the driver of the Jaguar was 16-year-old Erald Amoako, son of Pastor Salifu Amoako. Witnesses and CCTV footage suggest that Erald was speeding recklessly before the collision. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived to extinguish the blaze and recover the victims, although they faced logistical challenges. Footage shared by the GNFS showed firefighters cutting through the charred wreckage of the vehicles.

Erald Amoako survived the crash with severe injuries and is receiving medical treatment, while another victim involved in the crash has been treated and discharged. The bodies of the two girls were transferred to the mortuary for preservation and post-mortem examination.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many questioning how a 16-year-old was allowed to drive, given Ghana’s legal driving age of 18. The police have yet to confirm if Erald had a valid driver’s license, and investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing. Pastor Salifu Amoako has not commented on the tragic event as the investigation continues. Authorities are asking the public for patience while they work to uncover more details.
