Anum SHS Confirms 9 H1N1 Cases, Boso Isolates 44 Suspects
Health authorities confirmed nine H1N1 cases at Anum Senior High School in Ghana’s Eastern Region on June 30, 2025, after testing 25 samples, as reported by 3News. The outbreak, verified by the Noguchi Memorial Institute, prompted the isolation of affected students to curb the spread.
At Boso Senior High School, 44 students showing similar flu-like symptoms, such as fever and cough, are under quarantine while awaiting test results. The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has sent personal protective equipment, including masks and Veronica buckets, to both schools to support containment efforts.
The GHS is working with regional health teams to monitor the situation and trace contacts. Authorities have called for calm, noting that H1N1, a subtype of influenza A, is manageable with proper care. The outbreak follows a global rise in flu cases, with Ghana’s surveillance system on high alert.
Schools have been urged to enforce strict hygiene measures, like handwashing and mask-wearing. The GHS is also seeking more logistical support to handle potential new cases. No deaths have been reported, and both schools are cooperating to keep students safe while tests continue.
This outbreak adds to Ghana’s health challenges, with recent COVID-19 and Mpox cases reported. The GHS is urging parents and communities to stay vigilant and report symptoms quickly to prevent further spread and ensure the situation remains under control.
