The Electoral Commission (EC) has destroyed all ballot papers distributed to the Eastern Region following a reported defect in one of the presidential election papers. The destruction took place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, and involved ballots for all 33 constituencies in the region.

The EC’s decision came after a tip-off from National Security revealed a single defaced ballot paper had been removed from the printing house. The compromised ballots were traced to Rocheck Limited, the printing contractor, whose operations were monitored by the National Investigation Bureau, National Security, political party agents, and EC staff during production.

Destroyed ballot papers

To maintain transparency, the destruction of the recalled ballots was conducted in the presence of Electoral Commission officials, police officers, and party agents.

The EC assured the public of its commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and took the necessary steps to rectify the issue promptly.

This swift action demonstrates the Commission’s resolve to safeguard the credibility of Ghana’s elections while ensuring public confidence in the electoral system.
