Education Ministry Refutes WAEC’s Claims on WASSCE Results Release

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has urged the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to verify facts internally before making statements that could mislead the public or undermine the Ministry’s efforts. This follows conflicting statements about the release of the 2024 WASSCE results.

Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum assured journalists during a visit to WAEC’s offices that the results would be released by December 29, 2024. However, WAEC’s Head of Public Relations, John Kapi, disputed the Minister’s claims, stating that the Council was yet to receive an additional GHS 35 million needed to conclude processing the results. He noted that only GHS 25 million of the Ministry’s promised funding had been received on December 18, leaving significant operational needs unmet.

In a statement issued on December 26, the Ministry clarified that WAEC had formally acknowledged receipt of the GHS 25 million payment in a letter dated December 20, 2024. The Ministry also stated that the additional GHS 35 million requested by WAEC to repair scanners and process results had since been released. It emphasized that the total disbursement to WAEC from July to December 2024 amounted to GHS 167,976,815, fulfilling the Ministry’s financial obligations.

The Ministry called for accurate public statements, urging WAEC’s PRO to verify facts before issuing pronouncements. It reassured Ghanaians that efforts to release the 2024 WASSCE results are ongoing and asked the public to remain calm. Both institutions are reportedly working together to resolve any remaining challenges.
