Ekumfi Fruits & Juices Secures Major Export Deal, Expands Operations

Ekumfi Fruits and Juices Ltd, a top producer of Made-in-Ghana fruit juices, has secured a significant export contract, prompting a transition to 24-hour operations. This expansion is set to generate over 12,000 jobs in Ekumfi, one of Ghana’s most underserved districts, fostering economic growth in the Central Region.

Strategic Partnership with Central Citrus Ltd

To support its expansion, Ekumfi Fruits and Juices has partnered with Central Citrus Ltd, the largest citrus processing factory in West Africa. With backing from Dzata Cement, Central Citrus will also shift to 24-hour production, creating 15,000 more jobs in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District.

The facility will process 15 tons of oranges per hour and introduce the Pixie citrus variety, offering farmers a high-yield, export-friendly product. This initiative aims to empower local farmers, ensuring sustainability and boosting Ghana’s agro-processing industry.

Impact on Ghana’s Economy & Agro-Processing Sector

Ghana currently imports $250 million worth of fruit juices annually, despite having the capacity for local production. The expansion of Ekumfi and Central Citrus, along with the revival of the Komenda Sugar Factory, is expected to drive import substitution and strengthen Ghana’s position in the $550 billion global natural food & beverage industry.

With experts estimating that Ghana’s fruit and exotic crop value chain could generate $5 billion annually, this expansion could lead to 900,000 new jobs, further solidifying the country’s role in the international agro-processing sector.
