The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, has implored the students of Achimota Secondary School to embrace Ghanaian heritage and promote locally made cocoa products, and its heritage. She made the call during an official chocolate visit to the school on Friday, 13th February, 2026.
The visit formed part of GTA’s youth-focused activation under National Chocolate Month, aimed at promoting the consumption of Ghana-made chocolate, deepening awareness of Ghana’s cocoa heritage, and inspiring the next generation to appreciate the economic and cultural value of the cocoa and tourism sectors.
Addressing the students, Houadjeto indicated that students need to understand the cocoa sector, highlighting the health benefits of locally produced chocolate and the need to support cocoa farmers.
“Most of the chocolates abroad contain just 4%, 5% or 10% cocoa,” she said. “In Ghana, our chocolate has a minimum of 40% cocoa content, and we have as much as 92% cocoa in our dark chocolate. These are extremely healthy, and its helps to formulate the brain tissues to empower you for educational successes.” She said.
According to her, its starts from a cocoa farm and goes through a process before it becomes chocolate,” she told the students. “It is very important for you to understand that entire value chain.”
She also encouraged the students to prioritise Ghana-made chocolates over imported alternatives, stressing that buying local directly supports cocoa farmers and their families.
