Nana Egya Kwamina XI, the Divisional Chief of Apremdo, has called on international students and the entire student body of Takoradi Technical University (TTU) to embrace cultural diversity during the inaugural International Students’ Week.

In his keynote address, Nana Egya Kwamina XI highlighted TTU’s remarkable success since its establishment in 1954 and its achievement of full university status in 2016. As a traditional ruler in the Western Region of Ghana, he expressed his pride in TTU’s international recognition, which has put Sekondi-Takoradi on the global map.

The chief encouraged international students to learn Ghanaian languages and experience the rich cultures of the country.

He referenced the university’s motto, “Adwen, Akoma na Nsa ma mpuntu” (Skills combined with Wisdom accelerates development), which is in the Fante language. He also invited students to learn the Ahanta language, spoken by the people of Sekondi-Takoradi, and even suggested listening to Kofi Kinaata’s “Aunty Ama Song” to get a feel for the language.

Speaking on the theme “70 Years of Excellence: Reflections on Advancing the Internationalization Agendum of TTU,” Nana Egya Kwamina XI emphasized the importance of exchange programs, co-authoring papers, and presenting at international conferences to strengthen TTU’s internationalization agenda and build a pipeline for future academics.

In his concluding remarks, the chief welcomed international students to Sekondi-Takoradi, encouraging them to enjoy their stay and feel at home.

The celebration was attended by senior high school students, faculty deans, teaching and non-teaching staff, and alumni.
