EOCO Rejects Agyapong’s Property for Wontumi’s Release

Kennedy Agyapong’s $20 million property was turned down by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as bail for NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Wontumi, on June 2, 2025. George Oduro, former MP for New Edubiase, said the property was already used to bail another person, making it unusable for Wontumi’s GH¢50 million bail.

Wontumi was arrested on May 27, 2025, facing charges of fraud and money laundering. His bail required two sureties with valid property titles. Agyapong offered his property, but his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, explained it lacked proper registration or was tied up in another court case, so EOCO rejected it.

Despite the setback, Wontumi’s legal team, led by Appiah-Kubi, met the bail conditions by May 30 with help from former Minister Bryan Acheampong, who provided valid property documents. However, a last-minute legal filing delayed Wontumi’s release until June 2, when he was freed after the issue was resolved.

Oduro shared these details on Movement TV on June 4, noting Agyapong’s efforts to help Wontumi. The property had previously secured bail for Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, but its legal status blocked its use this time. EOCO insisted on proper titles to ensure the bail process was lawful.

The case drew attention, with NPP supporters protesting at EOCO’s office on May 29, calling the GH¢50 million bail too harsh. Wontumi’s release has eased tensions, but the investigation into his financial dealings continues, with EOCO set to question him further.
