Honda CR-V, Ford F-150, Range Rover, and Dodge Models
EOCO has identified Honda CR-Vs, Ford F-150s, Range Rovers, and Dodge models as the most frequently intercepted stolen vehicles in Ghana, following an Interpol alert naming the country a hub for stolen cars from the US and Canada, which was announced on August 20, 2025.
Leo Anthony Siamah, Head of EOCO’s Legal Unit, urged buyers to verify these brands using Interpol’s database, as they dominate the 1,200 stolen vehicle cases recovered in 2025. Ghana’s market, typically dealing in salvaged cars, raises suspicion for accident-free 2023–2024 models.
EOCO’s crackdown, intensified after a 2024 Interpol report, also targets Toyota Highlanders and Honda Accords. Operations have led to 47 vehicle seizures this year, with 60% involving the four flagged brands, often smuggled through Tema Port, per Customs data.
Siamah warned against purchasing “too new” vehicles without due diligence, as Ghana’s $1.5 billion used car market is vulnerable to criminal networks. Buyers are advised to check vehicle histories to avoid legal repercussions under Ghana’s Proceeds of Crime Act.
EOCO’s efforts, backed by Interpol’s Stolen Motor Vehicle Database, aim to curb Ghana’s role in transnational vehicle theft, with ongoing investigations targeting smuggling syndicates. Public cooperation is crucial to mitigating the 15% increase in stolen car imports since 2024.
