GRA Men extended their winning streak to three games in the 2025 Salpholda Hockey League with a dominant 5-0 victory over Reformers on Saturday, May 31, at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.
The match started with the Prison-based Reformers putting up a solid resistance for the first 10 minutes. However, they eventually caved in the 15th minute when Luke Damalie converted a penalty corner to give GRA the lead. Kwesi Assah-Anim added to the tally in the 28th minute with a well-taken field goal, doubling the advantage before halftime.
Re-energized from the break, GRA came out firing. Just two minutes into the third quarter, Peter Ebo Mantey netted the third via another penalty corner. The floodgates remained open as Ernest Obeng Opoku made it 4-0 in the 51st minute with a superb field goal.
Kwesi Assah-Anim returned to seal the win with his second goal of the day—his first brace of the season—in the 56th minute, handing the Reformers their heaviest defeat so far.
This emphatic result solidifies GRA’s top spot on the league table with 9 points from three games. They now set their sights on a high-stakes encounter against Police on June 28.
GRA’s captain did not mince words when addressing the pre-match hype from their opponents; “Their 3-1 bragging was all that we wanted to overturn,” he said. “They started bragging since Monday, so we had to win this game. Tactically and mentally, we prepared for it. Every match is a final match for us. That’s what it is.”
Kwesi Assah-Anim emphasized the team’s focused approach; “We take match by match. We don’t take the season as a whole—we treat every single game like a final. If we’re able to get past that next tough match, there’s a real chance we’ll win the league.”
GRA’s next game is against Police Men of 28th June 2025.
