Adu-Boahene and Wife Officially Charged with Stealing GH₵49.1M
Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, and two others were charged with stealing GH₵49.1 million from the state. The Office of the Attorney General confirmed the charges, marking a significant blow to public trust in Ghana’s national security framework.
The NSB, tasked with securing communications for national security and intelligence agencies, has been under scrutiny since Adu-Boahene’s tenure. An audit revealed funds were siphoned to BNC Communications Bureau Limited, a company he co-owns with his wife, following a $7 million deal with an Israeli firm for cyber defense software in 2020.
Angela Adjei-Boateng’s arrest in March 2025 by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) had already hinted at deeper issues. The couple’s alleged actions reflect broader corruption challenges in Ghana, where the country scored 42 on Transparency International’s 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, ranking 80th globally.
The urgent need for stricter oversight in Ghana’s public sector is a must. The NSB’s role in managing secure communications, including election infrastructure since 2008, makes this breach particularly alarming, as citizens demand accountability and reform.
