Suspect Posed as a Medical Professional to Defraud Victims With Fake Travel Deals


The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man for posing as a medical doctor and defrauding individuals under the guise of offering international travel opportunities. The suspect, Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, was apprehended on Thursday, June 6, 2025, in an intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) at Kasoa Crispo City in the Central Region.

At the time of his arrest, Kow-Assifuah was wearing a white lab coat and a stethoscope, meeting yet another potential victim he had allegedly lured through social media. A search of the premises uncovered medical supplies, including two stethoscopes, five syringes, three IV drips, vaccine bottles, sample bottles, a Ghanaian passport, and GH¢8,500 in cash.

During police interrogation, the suspect admitted to falsely claiming to be a doctor at the United Brain Hospital in Mallam, Accra. He confessed to initiating fake romantic relationships with women online and exploiting their trust to collect money for fraudulent travel deals to Europe.

Kow-Assifuah is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities say he will be arraigned in court soon as they continue efforts to clamp down on impersonation and cyber fraud schemes.
