MP Emmanuel Buah Demands Action on Kamgbunli Fish Disease Crisis

Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembele, has called for urgent intervention in the fish disease crisis affecting Kamgbunli, attributed to contamination in the Ebi River. The crisis has halted fishing activities, the community’s primary livelihood, and raised public health concerns.

Reports indicate fish caught in the river show severe skin infections, emit a noxious odour, and the water itself has unusual discolouration. To protect residents, authorities have temporarily banned fishing in the Ebi River, leaving many fishermen without income and worsening economic hardship in the area.

In a statement, Hon. Buah urged the Western Regional Fisheries Commission to expedite testing of water and fish samples. “Delays in addressing this issue will only worsen the plight of our community,” the MP stated, expressing deep concern over the impact on livelihoods and public health.

He also appealed to the Ministries of Fisheries, Environment, Science, and Technology, as well as other agencies, to collaborate in investigating the root cause and providing necessary support to resolve the crisis. “I stand in solidarity with the people of Kamgbunli and urge all stakeholders to prioritize this issue and offer immediate relief,” Buah added.
