The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim Constituency, Joseph Mensah, has officially declared his intention to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 general election.
He filed his nomination on Monday, September 9, 2024, at the Effia/Kwesimintsim Electoral Commission’s office.
Speaking after submitting his forms in Takoradi, Mensah expressed his disappointment with the internal dynamics of the party, stating, “I believe politics is about working to improve the lives of your people and seeing to the development of the area.
“Once I was fulfilling all these in my constituency, and there was a likelihood of winning back the constituency for the party. I find it difficult to believe that a few delegates could be enticed with money to truncate the good work I was doing.”
He further shared his thoughts on the party’s internal voting processes which had created enmity, divisiveness and apathy in the party. “I see this as an affront to good governance since money is used to change people’s minds to vote in a certain direction. I don’t see myself belonging to such an institution where excellence and hard work are not considered in the voting pattern.” He said.
After filing his nomination, Joe Mensah visited the palace of the chief of Apremdo, where he received prayers and well-wishes for his candidacy.
He was accompanied by a group of loyal supporters throughout the process.
