Court Grants Bail Amid Stringent Conditions to Alleged Drug Traffickers

An Accra Circuit Court, led by Her Ladyship Sedinam Awo Kwadam, has granted bail to four individuals accused of attempting to smuggle suspected cocaine through the Swissport cargo terminal at Kotoka International Airport. Each accused has been given a 13 million Ghana cedis bail with strict conditions.

The charges include conspiracy to commit a crime and unlawful possession of narcotics. On April 23, 2025, while conducting a routine check at the Export Section of the Swissport Cargo Terminal, officers intercepted three wooden boxes suspected of concealing drugs. Upon investigation, these boxes were found to contain false compartments with 73 compressed slabs of a substance that tested positive for cocaine.

Though arrested on the same day, all four suspects have denied any knowledge of the cocaine. The court has imposed conditions requiring four sureties for each bail, one of which must be justified with a million Ghana cedis worth of landed property. The sureties must be civil servants earning a net monthly salary of at least five thousand Ghana cedis.

In addition to the bail conditions, the accused are forbidden from acquiring new passports, and their biodata has been submitted to passport offices nationwide. They’ve also been placed on a stop list at all exit points and are required to surrender their passports to the court registry immediately. Furthermore, they must report to the NACOC twice a week.
