The Ministry of Education and the Conference of Heads and Proprietors of Private Secondary Schools (CHOPSS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking a significant milestone in the inclusion of private senior high schools in the Free SHS program.

This move aims to increase access to quality education, reduce congestion in public schools, and provide opportunities for inclusion.

The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) Greater Accra Chairperson, Dr. Aisha Asi Akrofi, expressed profound gratitude to President, the Minister of Education, the Director-General of Education, and the Free SHS Coordinator for their unwavering commitment to making this promise a reality.

“We assure the Ministry of quality education delivery from our schools,” Dr. Akrofi said. “We’re grateful and confident that more of our schools meeting the criteria will be incorporated into the program in the 2026/2027 academic year.”

According to CHOPSS, this development signals a new era of partnership between the government and private senior high schools, stating..” and we’re hopeful it will translate into improved access to quality education for Ghanaians”.
