The week 8 pf the 2025 Salphoda Hockey League began with a mouthwatering encounter between Ark Boys and University of Ghana (UG). In a match that lived up to expectations, Ark Boys edged past UG with a tight 4-3 win. Citizens and Financiers battled to a 2-2 draw, with Financiers still languishing at the bottom of the Masters division with just a single point to their name.

In the men’s division, Police Men bounced back from their recent defeat to Exchequers with a hard fought 2-1 win over Arkmen. Speaking to the media after the game, the Police captain Asante Obed shared insight into their game plan; “they are young, they have speed and pace, so we went in with experience and area balls, and that worked for us. We are happy with this victory.”

In the women’s division, Police Ladies soared to second place on the league table after a dominant 6-1 performance over Legonknights. Team captain Evelyn Fiador expressed relief and satisfaction with the result; this is a massive win for us. Even though we wanted to score more goals, we conceded an early goal that nearly had an effect on us, but with experience, we quickly corrected our mistakes and bounced back. We thank God, management, and the playing body for this win.”

Reformers and Extinguishers played to a 1-1 stalemate. Extinguishers’ captain Joanita Korwu admitted her side was off their usual form; “we were not on form like we were in the Army game. We’re not happy with the result, but we’ll keep working hard for better outcomes.” Reformers’ captain expressed disappointment; we prepared seriously to grab the 3 maximum points, but unfortunately, it ended in a draw. It’s sad, but that’s the game, and we’ll get ready for the next.”

The Saturday fixture closed with a top clash between GRA Ladies and Army Ladies. After two previous draws between the sides in the first and second rounds, GRA finally edged out their rivals 2-1. Captain Gertrude Inkoom stressed the importance of the win; “as champions, every team will come hard at us. We needed to change that result, and we did. However, we were wasteful up front, and we’ll work on our finishing – it must produce results, and that’s important.” Army’s Otto Eleanor was less pleased and pointed fingers at the officiating; “officiating today caused our defeat. We did everything in our power, but some calls from the umpires killed our momentum. We will come back stronger.”
