The Ga Traditional Council has expressed deep concerns over the planned Igbo Day and New Yam Festival scheduled for September 21, 2025, at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra.

The council believes that allowing the event to proceed could potentially lead to mayhem and disturbances of peace and security within the Ga State.

These concerns were raised in a letter dated 19th September, 2025, signed by Evelyn Amewotse, registrar of the council, and directed to the Greater Accra Regional Police commander.

In July, the Ga Traditional Council emphatically cautioned Eze Dr. Amb. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, the supposed Paramount King of the Igbo community in Ghana, to desist from organizing cultural festivities that could be seen as importing Igbo culture into the Ga State.

Despite this warning, the festival is still set to take place, prompting the council to issue a stern caution to Amb. Chukwudi in putting the program to a halt.

Eze Dr. Amb. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, known for his Igbo culture, have been warned in organizing events like the Igbo Day and New Yam Festival.

However, the Ga Traditional Council’s concerns highlight the potential risks associated with large cultural gatherings. The Ga Traditional Council is counting on cooperation to maintain peace and security within the Ga State.
