General Officer Commanding Urges Public to Avoid Fraudsters
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has warned the public to beware of scammers charging money for fake army recruitment, as no enlistment is happening now. Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, the General Officer Commanding, made this clear during a June 25, 2025, address at the Northern Command Headquarters in Tamale, urging people to report fraudsters.
Onwona stressed that GAF recruitment is free, fair, and based on merit, with no payments allowed. He said scammers are targeting jobless youth with false promises of army jobs. The GAF has faced a surge in fake recruitment ads, prompting earlier warnings on June 4, 2025, to ignore such claims.
The warning follows plans to recruit 12,000 youth over four years, announced by Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah on June 20. The process will be open and transparent, with details only in trusted newspapers like the Daily Graphic and Ghanaian Times. Onwona asked citizens to stay alert and avoid falling for scams.

Recent arrests, like a man caught in December 2024 for a fake recruitment video, show GAF’s efforts to stop fraud. Onwona also urged soldiers to avoid illegal activities, as they harm the army’s reputation. The public is encouraged to report suspicious recruitment offers to authorities.
With youth unemployment a concern, the GAF is committed to a fair enlistment process when it starts. For now, no recruitment is active, and Ghanaians are urged to wait for official announcements to avoid losing money to criminals.
