In an effort to reduce government expenditures, the president of Gambia, Adama Barrow has issued an Executive Order suspending all non-statutory overseas travels for government officials.
This order, effective immediately, applies to the President, Vice-President, Cabinet Ministers, Senior Government Officials, Civil Servants, and employees across all government institutions and agencies.
The order exempts travels to statutory meetings and fully externally funded trips, subject to prior approval. Delegates must submit ‘back to office reports’ upon their return. The Executive Order emphasizes strict compliance, urging all government entities to freeze travels within their respective departments.
This is a strategy to manage the country’s public funds more efficiently and address financial challenges. By limiting non-essential travel, the government aims to allocate resources more effectively and ensure fiscal responsibility.
