Funds to Support Practical Exams Nationwide

The Ghana Education Service (GES) announced on July 28, 2025, the release of funds to all Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) to cover costs for the 2025 WASSCE practical examinations, ensuring provision of essential materials. GES Public Relations Head Daniel Fenyi emphasized support for science, technical, and vocational components.

The funding aims to relieve parents and guardians of financial burdens, allowing students to focus on academic preparation. Over 500,000 candidates are expected to participate in the 2025 WASSCE, with practicals starting August 11. The initiative follows the inclusion of 60 private SHSs in the Free SHS program, easing overcrowding.

Fenyi urged regional, district, and school authorities to ensure transparent use of funds, with GES monitoring compliance. The move aligns with efforts to enhance education quality, as seen in recent teacher licensure reforms. Stakeholders, including GNAT, praised the timely disbursement but called for detailed accountability measures.

The funds address past issues where schools struggled to procure practical materials, ensuring smooth exam administration. GES’s commitment reflects President Mahama’s education agenda, with 85% SHS enrollment in 2024. The release builds on the July 14 lifting of social gathering bans at universities, fostering academic continuity.
