Ghana’s 40th National Farmers’ Day celebrations are underway in Accra at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, featuring a series of weeklong activities that will culminate in the final awards event on Friday, November 8, 2024. The awards ceremony, scheduled at Alisa Hotel in North Ridge, will see President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo present the prestigious national award to the overall Best Farmer of 2024.
This year, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has revamped the approach to Farmers’ Day celebrations. Acting Chief Director Paul Siameh explained in an interview with TV3 that there will be no separate regional celebrations; instead, each region has selected nominees across ten award categories. These nominees will converge in Accra for the national ceremony, where regional ministers will present awards to honorees from their respective regions.
“This 40th edition is a milestone, underscoring the critical contributions of farmers to food security and economic stability,” shared Mr. Siameh. “We are eager to recognize these dedicated individuals for their invaluable work.”
The opening event featured a vibrant exhibition of agricultural produce, with farmers showcasing fresh crops, local staples, and innovative products that illustrate Ghana’s agricultural achievements. Attendees can explore the exhibition, gaining insights into the diversity and progress within Ghana’s agricultural sector over the past year.
The National Farmers’ Day festivities aim to highlight the dedication of Ghanaian farmers and their critical role in driving food security, rural development, and economic growth. This year’s celebration promises to be an inspiring event that not only acknowledges the resilience and innovation of Ghana’s farmers but also reaffirms the government’s commitment to supporting agricultural development.
