Ghana Armed Forces Probes Alleged Assault by Soldiers in Kumasi
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has launched an investigation into an alleged assault incident involving seven military personnel in Kumasi on Friday, March 28, 2025.
A statement from the Military High Command confirmed that the accused personnel—three officers and four soldiers—allegedly arrested and physically assaulted three civilians over accusations of mobile phone theft. The victims reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries following the incident.
In response to the allegations, the Military Police and the Ashanti Regional Police CID have begun a joint investigation to uncover the facts. Meanwhile, the officers and soldiers involved have been placed under closed arrest while the inquiry progresses.
The Military High Command has assured the public that anyone found guilty of misconduct will face appropriate legal action.
“The Military High Command wishes to assure all that anyone found culpable would be dealt with according to the law,” the statement emphasized, reaffirming the military’s commitment to discipline and accountability.
The GAF has also urged the public, as well as the families and friends of the victims, to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.
“We also urge the families and friends of the victims to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigations,” the statement added.

The incident has sparked renewed discussions on the conduct of security personnel and their professionalism in handling civilian-related cases. With growing concerns over military-civilian relations, the outcome of this investigation will be closely watched by the public.
